With those tragedies come another set of well-meaning people and communities wondering what, if anything, they could have done to prevent it. New Jersey high school football is back and so begins our Player of the Week polls for the state. Teams in the preseason showcased what they’ve got heading into Week 2 of the regular season. High school football players train relentlessly, preparing for game day. Under Friday night lights, they showcase their talents. Tackles, passes, and touchdowns define their journey. Victory brings pride, while losses teach valuable lessons. Team unity grows stronger with each challenge. Coaches mentor, shaping their future success on and off the field. The senior linebacker had three sacks and an interception to lead the Spartans to a 39-0 win over Oakcrest. Medina has 11.5 tackles this season. Holy Spirit (2-0) will play at Hammonton (0-2) at 7 p.m. Friday. As such, we have eight athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Maine Football Player of the Week award from September 5-7, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. This time, all being well, United will appoint a manager with a record of success at home and in Europe, a manager whose achievements are in the present and not the past, a manager who has both nothing and something to prove. You'd think that would be the baseline for anybody coming into the job, and yet the last time they did that it was 1986. This is not to compare Ten Hag and Alex Ferguson; that would obviously be unhelpful. But it's about time a United board took the managerial appointment seriously.
